Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the concert “Jazz Up for Christmas at Dom Pedro V Theatre” will be staged in the evening from 21, 22, 24 and 25 December, where Portuguese jazz maestro Zé Eduardo and the Jazz Mission Big Band were invited to perform. Combining jazz, gastronomy and Portuguese culture, the event invites residents and tourists to celebrate Christmas at the theatre and experience the cultural, artistic, and festive vibes. Tickets will be on sale from this Sunday (1 December) and the public are advised to purchase tickets as soon as possible.
The concert will feature Zé Eduardo and the Jazz Mission Big Band, who will team up with veteran singers Marta Garrett and Sofia Rodrigues, to present a series of classic jazz pieces and Christmas carols to the Macao audience. The Jazz Mission Big Band, composed of top jazz performers from Portugal and other European countries, will showcase the majestic vigour of the Band and the unique arrangement of Zé Eduardo’s pieces at the Dom Pedro V Theatre, the first Western-style theatre in China. Before the concert starts, a cocktail reception hosted by a local chef specialising in Portuguese cuisine will be available at the portico of the Theatre, where the public can enjoy distinctive Portuguese and Christmas snacks and drinks for free by presenting their tickets at this neoclassical World Heritage building decorated with romantic and captivating Christmas lights.
Instrumentalist and composer Zé Eduardo is known for his dedication and outstanding contribution to jazz music education and promotional efforts and his reputation that spans across Europe. He has mentored many top European jazz musicians, including award-winning saxophone player Perico Sambeat, who will also take part in this concert. Zé Eduardo shares strong ties with Macao, as he participated in the first edition of the Macao International Jazz Festival in 1979 and has since then frequently visited Macao for jazz promotion and education, fostering many outstanding jazz musicians in the city. This concert will also feature performances by Macao singers Amanda Chan and Elisa Chan, and instrumentalists Lam Chak Seng, Chan Hon Chong and Gregory Wong. In addition to demonstrating the deep cultural bond between Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries, this concert will showcase the achievements of Zé Eduardo’s long-term efforts in promoting jazz music development in Macao.
Tickets for the concert “Jazz Up for Christmas at Dom Pedro V Theatre” are priced at MOP 250. Seating is not assigned. Spectators with tickets can enjoy Portuguese and Christmas snacks and drinks at the pre-concert cocktail reception. During the ticket purchase period, holders of a valid Macao Resident Identity Card, Macao Teacher Card, Macao Full-time Student Card, Macao Senior Citizen Card and Macao Disability Assessment Registration Card can enjoy a 20% discount.
