The ballet “Opera Warriors”, scripted by renowned Hong Kong columnist Pik Wah Li, Lilian, is a production by the Shanxi Huajin Dance Drama Ensemble inspired by the story of a group of actors from the Liyuan music academy during the period of development of Chinese opera. Through a combination between Chinese classical dance, Chinese traditional opera and Shanxi opera elements, this ballet takes the life story of three actors in an opera class to show feelings between mentors and disciples, fathers and sons and between brothers, loving feelings, resentments, the vicissitudes of social life, an unyielding spirit, among others. The piece uses modern thinking and viewpoints to trigger in the audience reflections on the past and on human nature, revealing “the stage as a small world, the world as a big stage”.
