During the first meeting of a consulting committee in human resources area, Chief Executive Edmund Ho stressed the importance of new ideas in forging appropriate policies in this area (31 Aug). The committee, composed of over 20 representatives from government departments, universities, employers, labour sector and prominent figures, was set up to collect public opinion and study resolution to the problems in this area. Edmund Ho, the Chief Executive and chairperson of the committee, said that the rapid social and economic development had created certain problems for the government to solve. As the public had given high expectation to this committee, it is urgent for the government to introduce appropriate human resources policies, he explained. Francis Tam, the Secretary for Economy and Finance and the vice-chairperson of the committee, said that the committee had formed two working groups to study the human resources policies, the current and future situation. He hoped that the committee could come up with some practical proposals and advice, Francis Tam said. The working groups would hold further meeting next week, he added.
