Following the discovery of the deadly H5N1 virus in chickens in a market in Hong Kong, the Health Bureau and the Civil and Municipal Affairs Bureau have met today to discuss ways to step up prevention measures. Though the sources of poultry imports are different from that of Hong Kong, Macao authorities will closely monitor the latest situation and to implement contingency plans accordingly. The authorities said monitoring measures would be in force continuously, such as exchanging information with the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization, and monitoring incoming passengers’ body temperatures at all checkpoints.
