Macao started getting more fresh water from key main upstream reservoirs starting 6 January, taking the storage in service reservoirs in Zhuhai and Macao to a sufficient level to tackle the salt tide problem over the Lunar New Year.
A press statement issued by the Salinity Response Task Force today said this was the fifth time the Pearl River Water Resources Commission have conducted drainage area water transfers to supply Macao.
High quality fresh water would fully refill the storage attached to pumping stations, and hence, the safety of water supply to Macao would be guaranteed, said the release.
The Commission will conduct another water transfer on 22 January. At present, salinity level of potable water in Macao continued to remain at green level, which means it is safe for drinking.
