Vice President meets Chief Executive

The Vice President, Mr Xi Jinping, met the Chief Executive, Mr Edmund Ho Hau Wah, at San Chok Un today, soon after his arrival in Macao. Mr Xi told Mr Ho that this was his third visit to Macao since its return to the motherland and on each occasion he could feel the changes here. Macao’s economy remained stable despite the global financial turmoil, he said, and that was a remarkable achievement. In response, Mr Ho extended his greetings to Mr Xi on behalf of the Macao SAR Government and the people of Macao. Mr Ho said it is expected that Macao’s economy would face the difficulties brought about by the global financial crisis and thanked the Central Government for introducing a range of measures to support Macao at such a critical moment. He said Mr Xi brought some important instructions to the Macao SAR Government and that the Macao SAR Government would be even more confident and more hard-working in dealing with the current economic environment. Present at the meeting were also the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Mr Liao Hui; the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Macao SAR, Mr Bai Zhijian, and the Deputy Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, Mr Zhao Shengxuan.
