Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the population of Macao was estimated at 549,500 as at 30 September 2010, up by 4,900 from end-June, attributable to the increase in Mainland immigrants and non-resident workers. In the third quarter of 2010, there were 1,381 live births, up by 23.1% quarter-to-quarter. Gender ratio of the newborn was 103.7, with 703 male babies. Number of mortality cases totalled 417 and the major underlying causes of death were Neoplasms and Diseases of the Circulatory System. Meanwhile, 3 cases of fetal mortality were recorded. There were 1,474 cases of Notifiable diseases reported in this quarter, consisting mainly of Influenza (825 cases), Enterovirus Infection (205 cases) and Chickenpox (174 cases). In addition, 707 cases of marriage registration were recorded, down by 1.4% over the second quarter of 2010. In the third quarter of 2010, there were 2,845 Chinese immigrants with One-way Exit Permit moving to Macao, an increase of 836 quarter-to-quarter; meanwhile, 365 illegal immigrants were repatriated. Moreover, a total of 937 individuals were authorized to reside in Macao, up by 90 quarter-to-quarter. Total number of non-resident workers stood at 74,525 at the end of the third quarter, up by 2,383 quarter-to-quarter.
