Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the number of visitor and non-resident arrivals totalled 2,620,223 in May 2010. Total visitor arrivals surged by 31.8% year-on-year to 2,098,267 as visitor arrivals for May 2009 was adversely affected by the human swine influenza pandemic. Same-day visitors (1,107,475) accounted for 52.8% of the total visitor arrivals, with 601,908 coming from Mainland China. Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from Mainland China soared by 43.5% year-on-year to 1,135,430 (54.1% of total visitor arrivals), with 450,037 travelling to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, up notably by 42.4% from May 2009 (316,111). Visitors from Hong Kong (589,644); Taiwan, China (103,862) and Japan (36,778) rose by 20.5%, 6.0% and 39.5% respectively; besides, visitors from India (25,631) and the Republic of Korea (25,341) also registered remarkable increases. Visitor arrivals totalled 10,325,051 in the first five months of 2010, up by 15.8% year-on-year. The majority of visitors were from Mainland China (5,522,415); Hong Kong (3,011,058); Taiwan, China (545,949); Japan (169,149); Malaysia (145,786) and Republic of Korea (133,762). Same-day visitors accounted for 52.0% of the total visitor arrivals, at 5,364,492 in the first five months of 2010. Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea totalled 4,252,348 in the first five months of 2010, up by 16.8% year-on-year. Visitors arriving at the Outer Harbour increased by 8.3% to 2,689,811, with the majority coming from Hong Kong (51.5%) and Mainland China (24.8%); meanwhile, those arriving at the Provisional Ferry Terminal in Taipa went up by 36.5% to 1,407,488. Visitor arrivals by land increased by 16.0% year-on-year to 5,366,185 in the first five months of 2010; those arriving through the Border Gate totalled 4,911,916 and the majority were visitors from Mainland China (78.8%) and Hong Kong (13.9%). Visitor arrivals by air rose by 9.6% year-on-year to 706,518 in the first five months of 2010. Visitors arriving at the Macao International Airport went up by 10.2% to 697,827, with the majority coming from Taiwan, China (36.4%); Mainland China (29.6%); and Malaysia (8.1%).
