The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR's foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP265.0 billion (USD33.04 billion) at the end of November 2011. The reserves rose by 4.6% from the revised value of MOP253.4 billion (USD31.69 billion) for the previous month. When compared with a year earlier, the reserves increased by MOP82.8 billion or 45.4%. Macao SAR's foreign exchange reserves at end-November 2011 represented 45 times the currency in circulation or 362.8% of Pataca M2 at end-October 2011. The trade-weighted effective exchange rate index for the pataca, a gauge of the domestic currency's exchange rates against the currencies of Macao's major trading partners, remained unchanged from the previous month at 87.83, but fell by 1.19 points over the same period last year.
