Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that total visitor arrivals increased by 10.7% year-on-year to 2,338,449 in April 2011. Same-day visitors (1,271,544) accounted for 54.4% of total visitor arrivals, with 694,935 coming from Mainland China. Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from Mainland China increased by 20.7% year-on-year to 1,270,753 (54.3% of total visitor arrivals), mostly coming from Guangdong Province (628,970), Fujian Province (76,145) and Zhejiang Province (47,188); those travelling to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme totalled 495,424, up by 27.0% year-on-year. Visitors from Hong Kong (709,053) and the Republic of Korea (25,865) increased by 2.1% and 2.4% respectively, while those from Taiwan, China (110,410); Malaysia (27,122) and Thailand (24,468) decreased by 1.3%, 10.8% and 3.6% respectively. Total visitor arrivals reached 8,769,627 in the first four months of 2011, up by 6.6% year-on-year. Visitors from Mainland China (4,949,705), Hong Kong (2,488,047) and the Republic of Korea (132,295) increased by 12.8%, 2.8% and 22.0% respectively, while those from Taiwan, China (385,962); Japan (123,814) and Malaysia (102,276) decreased by 12.7%, 6.5% and 11.6% respectively. In the first four months of 2011, same-day visitors accounted for 54.6% of the total, at 4,790,205. Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea totalled 3,455,019 in the first four months of 2011, up by 1.9% year-on-year. Visitors arriving at the Outer Harbour increased by 6.1% to 2,293,234, with the majority coming from Hong Kong (54.2%) and Mainland China (24.7%); meanwhile, those arriving at the Provisional Ferry Terminal in Taipa decreased by 8.3% to 1,015,032. Visitor arrivals by land increased by 12.2% year-on-year to 4,780,144 in the first four months of 2011; those arriving through the Border Gate totalled 4,422,097 and the majority were visitors from Mainland China (80.2%) and Hong Kong (13.8%). Visitor arrivals by air decreased by 6.8% year-on-year to 534,464. Visitors arriving at the Macao International Airport went down by 7.1% to 526,334, with the majority coming from Mainland China (36.6%); Taiwan, China (33.3%); and Malaysia (6.7%).
