Government values public opinions when drafting new laws

Strengthening the promotion of legal knowledge and listening to public opinions when proposing new laws are high on the list of the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Ms Chan Hoi Fan, in bids to further promote legal awareness in the community. Speaking to senior officials on a visit to the Legal Affairs Bureau on 13 January, Ms Chan said their work was recognised, but they would have to put more efforts into shortening the law-drafting processes. Ms Chan also visited the Pension Fund and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau in the two following days, where she urged officials to follow the Government's administration principles and continue with efforts to enhance service quality. She spoke highly of the three departments for their achievements, but urged the senior officials to make more people-oriented policies, improve on timelines and have the courage to take up more responsibilities.
