MGTO urges visitors to reconsider their planned trips to Macao carefully

At present, water and power supply has not fully resumed in Macao yet. Some hotels and guest houses remain affected by power and water shortage. Furthermore, with damaged facilities and the blockage of some roads after the typhoon, frontline workers and volunteers are facing an immense number of tasks to tackle the aftermath. The whole city has begun pouring efforts in the work of restoration from the catastrophe. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) therefore urges visitors to reconsider their planned upcoming trips to Macao carefully and assess the latest situations. On the other hand, MGTO conducted an urgent meeting with members of the travel trade this morning and requested local travel agencies to temporarily suspend their tour group arrangements to Macao (25-30 August), so that more resources can be allocated for the city’s recovery.

Up to now, MGTO has received 19 enquiries, complaints and suggestions regarding visitor itineraries, show ticket refund, transportation service, travel agency and hotel service among other aspects. There is one complaint about hotel room price.

MGTO has scrutinized room prices of local hotels and guest houses, and has by far discovered no escalation among room prices from their original amount declared by hotel and guest house establishments to MGTO, while some online booking websites were found to have raised their room prices. MGTO will continue to check on hotel room prices and will impose penalties upon any irregularities according to stipulated regulations.

MGTO operates its Tourist Information counters at the Ritz Building, Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, Border Gate, Macau International Airport and Taipa Ferry Terminal as usual to attend to visitors.

As the organizer, MGTO is currently examining and assessing the situations and conditions concerning its upcoming events. If any new arrangement arises, a public notice will be made accordingly.

MGTO advises residents and visitors to pay attention to the situations concerned. For any enquiry, please contact the 24-hour tourism hotline service at (853) – 28333000.
