Government listens to views from Community Service Consultative Committees on contingency mechanism for major catastrophes

In order to review and improve the contingency mechanism and handling ability regarding major catastrophes, the Macao SAR Government has started listening to views from various sectors of the society.

On August 28, Chan Hoi Fan, Secretary for Administration and Justice, and Wong Sio Chak, Secretary for Security, led the leaders of relevant areas to have meeting with 18 representatives from Community Service Consultative Committees of northern district, central district and islands district. On behalf of the Macao SAR Government, Secretary Chan Hoi Fan first expressed her sincere gratitude towards members of the Community Service Consultative Committees of the 3 districts for their full support for the government’s rescue work after the typhoon, which fully demonstrated the strong support within communities. Moreover, through this opportunity, it was hoped that members’ views and suggestions on the overall response mechanism and rescue work of the government could be listened to seriously. In the meeting, the 18 representatives from Community Service Consultative Committees actively expressed views on aspects such as weather forecast, operation of Civil Protection Action Centre, rescue coordination, information dissemination and infrastructure.

Secretary Wong Sio Chak introduced the rescue work of the Macao SAR Government to attendees of the meeting and responded to questions and comments from members. Secretary Wong also indicated that the government was aware of the problems and shortcomings in dealing with major natural catastrophes and was determined to seriously review them and make improvements in all aspects. Lastly, he thanked the committee members again for their valuable comments and hoped that they could continue to provide support to aftermath work, assisting the government in rebuilding home for all residents.

Attendees of the meeting also included Vong Iao Lek, Director-general of Macao Customs Service, and other leaders of relevant departments of the government; Lee Chong Cheng and Leong In Pong, Vice Coordinators of Northern District Community Service Consultative Committee; Lok Nam Tak, Choi Tat Meng and Un Sio Leng, Vice Coordinators of Central District Community Service Consultative Committee; Ho Hoi Leng Cristina, Ng Kun Cheong and Si Nei Na, Vice Coordinators of Islands District Community Service Consultative Committee, along with 10 committee members of the districts.
