Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for July 2017 amounted to MOP1.11 billion, up by 34.0% year-on-year; value of re-exports (MOP958 million) increased by 48.5%, with that of Garments (MOP195 million) surging by 393.1%; meanwhile, value of domestic exports (MOP156 million) slid by 16.2%, with that of Tobacco (MOP36 million) falling by 19.1%. Total merchandise import went up by 8.7% year-on-year to MOP6.15 billion, of which imports of Handbags & wallets and Gold jewellery expanded by 63.1% and 49.6% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in July amounted to MOP5.03 billion.
From January to July 2017, total value of merchandise export increased by 13.3% year-on-year to MOP6.73 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP5.69 billion) and domestic exports (MOP1.04 billion) rose by 15.8% and 1.2% respectively. Total value of merchandise import grew by 5.9% year-on-year to MOP41.21 billion. Merchandise trade deficit widened to MOP34.47 billion for the first seven months of 2017.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Mainland China increased by 17.7% year-on-year to MOP1.23 billion in the first seven months of 2017, of which exports to the nine provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP1.11 billion) grew by 13.3%. Furthermore, exports to Hong Kong (MOP4.09 billion) and the USA (MOP103 million) rose by 19.5% and 18.9% respectively, but exports to the EU (MOP114 million) fell by 4.7%. Meanwhile, exports to the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP0.7 million) dropped by 88.2% year-on-year. Exports of Non-textiles went up by 11.9% year-on-year to MOP6.19 billion, of which value of Diamond & diamond jewellery (MOP479 million) expanded by 34.8%, but that of Electronic components (MOP526 million) declined by 22.4%. Exports of Textiles & garments totalled MOP540 million, up by 32.5%.
By place of origin, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP13.50 billion) and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP356 million) decreased by 6.2% and 3.0% respectively year-on-year in the first seven months of 2017, whereas imports from the EU (MOP10.65 billion) increased by 14.2%. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise import from Mainland China fell by 0.7% to MOP6.63 billion, of which imports from the nine provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP6.29 billion) dropped by 1.3%. Imports of Consumer goods went up by 14.6% to MOP27.46 billion, with imports of Gold jewellery (MOP3.70 billion) and Watches (MOP2.98 billion) rising by 31.3% and 39.2% respectively. However, value of imports of Mobile phones (MOP2.11 billion) and Construction materials (MOP1.02 billion) declined by 17.4% and 17.1% respectively.
External merchandise trade totalled 47.94 billion in the first seven months of 2017, up by 6.9% compared with MOP44.86 billion a year earlier.
