Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for May 2015 amounted to MOP874 million, down by 5.9% year-on-year; value of re-exports (MOP719 million) and domestic exports (MOP156 million) decreased by 2.8% and 18.1% respectively. Total merchandise import declined by 4.3% year-on-year to MOP6.97 billion, of which imports of Gold jewellery and Motor cars & motorcycles fell by 34.7% and 42.3% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP6.10 billion. In the first five months of 2015, total value of merchandise export grew by 7.0% year-on-year to MOP4.53 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP3.74 billion) increased by 9.3%, but that of domestic exports (MOP784 million) dropped by 2.6%. Total value of merchandise import (MOP36.04 billion) held stable as in the same period of 2014. Merchandise trade deficit widened to MOP31.51 billion for the first five months of 2015. Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Hong Kong (MOP2.82 billion) and Mainland China (MOP664 million) in the first five months of 2015 increased by 6.5% and 24.9% year-on-year, while export to the EU (MOP110 million) and the USA (MOP82 million) decreased by 14.5% and 39.7% respectively. Exports of Non-textiles increased by 7.7% year-on-year to MOP4.22 billion, of which value of Clocks & watches (MOP689 million) and Electronic components (MOP299 million) rose by 32.3% and 23.0% respectively, but that of Machines, apparatus & parts (MOP519 million) dropped by 34.9%. Exports of Textiles & garments totalled MOP309 million, down by 1.6%. By country of origin, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP13.34 billion) in the first five months of 2015 increased by 14.9% year-on-year, while import from the EU (MOP8.22 billion) fell by 10.4%. Imports of Consumer goods dropped by 8.0% to MOP21.21 billion, with imports of Gold jewellery (MOP2.97 billion) decreasing by 33.8%, but that of Food & beverages (MOP4.98 billion) increasing by 8.4%. Moreover, imports of Mobile phones (MOP4.00 billion) expanded by 44.2%. External merchandise trade reached MOP40.56 billion in the first five months of 2015, up by 0.7% compared with MOP40.28 billion a year earlier.
