UM to hold Ceremony for Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Higher Degrees on 28 Nov

UM will hold the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Higher Degrees 2015 on 28 November

The University of Macau (UM) will hold the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Higher Degrees 2015 on 28 November (Saturday) at 11:00am in the University Hall. Honorary doctorates will be conferred on the renowned entrepreneur Ma Iao Lai, the educator Prof Tsui Lap-Chee, and Prof Zhong Nanshan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in the Division of Medical and Health Engineering, for their contributions to society. PhD degrees and master’s degrees will also be awarded at the ceremony. Dr Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macao SAR and chancellor of UM, will officiate at the ceremony. At the ceremony, Ma Iao Lai, Tsui Lap-Chee, and Zhong Nanshan will receive the Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa degree, Doctor of Education honoris causa degree, and Doctor of Science honoris causa degree, respectively. More than 600 students of PhD programmes, master’s degree programmes, and postgraduate certificate/diploma programmes, from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, will receive their graduation certificates. In addition, UM will hold the Doctor honoris causa Lectures Series. The Doctor honoris causa forum on ‘Charting the Socio-Economic Course of Macao: Its Past and Opportunities Ahead’, by Ma Iao Lai, will be held on 27 November (Friday) in E22-G013, Faculty of Business Administration, starting at 11:30am. Tsui Lap-Chee’s lecture titled ‘Right Time, Right Place, Right People: A Scientist Turned Educator’, will be held on 28 November (Saturday) in Student Activity Centre theatre, starting at 3:00pm.
