Consumer Council conducted survey on courier services

As courier services become more common due to rapid business transactions and online shopping, Consumer Council surveyed local courier companies to see if their services are good enough for the protection of consumer rights. Survey result is available in the latest issue no.263 Consumer Report. There are a few things that consumers compare when choosing a courier company, namely, prices of the service, whether pick-up service and tracking are available, etc.. Consumer Council regards it important to see if the company offers ‘receiver pay’ service, and whether the service terms of the company are enough for the protection of consumer rights when the package gets lost or damaged during the shipment. Survey result shows that each company has different policy to cover the mentioned matters, consumers can check the details and the terms of the courier companies to choose the one that suits themselves. Consumers are also advised to state the value of the package when using courier services as well as to keep the receipt for shipping the package, so that evidences could be proven when claim is needed. Other surveyed items include charges, delivery service, returns procedures, compensation for lost and damaged packages, etc. The Council will soon carry out its periodic work with Health Bureau (SSM) and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) to check the safety of mooncakes; recommendations are given in this issue of Consumer Report on how to choose and consume mooncakes. Other contents included the promotion of ‘Certified Shops’ and consumer education work are featured in the current issue. Consumer Report is now available free of charge at the Consumer Council (Av. Horta e Costa, N.º 24-A, Edf. Cheung Heng, R/C), and the service counter of the Council at Macao SAR Government Service Centre (Rua Nova da Areia Preta, Nº52), Public Information Centre at Vicky Plaza, libraries and bookstores.
