The “2015 Guangdong and Macao Branded Products Fair” is not only about creating a plethora of business opportunities; it is also an event full of entertainment. The Fair will be held for four days from 30 July to 2 August at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, co-ordinated by the Macau Fair & Trade Association, with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and MOFCOM’s Trade Development Bureau as special supporting organisations. Guangdong and Macao Co-operation: a New Stage with Great Prospects “Guangdong and Macao Branded Products Fair” is one of the main initiatives to foster economic and trade co-operation, to promote the overall planning and joint development of the MICE sector between Guangdong and Macao. Over the years, with huge support from policies like the “Outline Plan for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta”, the “Framework Agreement on Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao” and the CEPA, bilateral collaboration between the two places has continually advanced. This year, we welcome new opportunities and breakthroughs, including the execution of the “CEPA Agreement between the Mainland and Macao on Achieving Basic Liberalisation of Trade in Services in Guangdong” and the establishment of “China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone”. We are sure that such factors will be a major boost for reciprocation between Guangdong and Macao, so that both places are able to enter a new stage of all-round development. In this new stage, we expect that both sides will make full use of their respective strengths to complement each other, while implementing the liberalisation of trade in services, thus promoting industry transformation and upgrading, as well as strengthening the competitiveness of the region in the international arena. The Fair: Showcasing Diverse Commodities and Gaining Recognition over the Years As one of the renowned exhibitions in the region, the “Guangdong and Macao Branded Products Fair” has become a model in the field, while playing a vital role in fostering MICE development. The Guangdong and Macao Governments attach great importance and provide support to the event which is constantly looking to advance and innovate itself. Ever since the first GMBPF was organised in 2009, the Fair has tried different styles of activities, in which successful elements have been permanently added to the Fair. This time, the “carnival style” has been retained, merging business, cultural exchanges, shopping and leisure. The exhibition will occupy an area of about 6, 000 m² containing 289 booths. Guangdong Province Branded Products Exhibition and Sales Area will set up 182 booths, while Macao’s will increase from 102 last year to 107 this year. Guangdong province has organised a delegation comprising 123 enterprises from 21 prefecture-level cities and Shunde, including Chaozhou, Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Heyuan, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Jieyang, Maoming, Meizhou, Qingyuan, Shantou, Shanwei, Shaoguan, Shenzhen, Yangjiang, Yunfu Zhanjiang, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan and Zhuhai. The three main types of commodities to be showcased include food, daily necessities and gifts. Every participating business has been carefully picked by Guangdong trade and economic departments, which selected the best of the best. Many of the chosen companies have won prizes like “China Top Brand Product”, “China Famous Trademark”, and “Guangdong Top Brand”. It means that the quality of the commodities is not only good but also trustworthy. Macao products exhibited are mainly, products Made in Macao, local brands, locally designed products and products with Macao enterprises acting as the agent. The main types of exhibited goods include: souvenir food, cultural and creative gifts, electronics and daily necessities. Local exhibitors are active participants and many of them have become regulars over years. Such enthusiasm demonstrates that the event plays an important role, general sales and trade promotion have done very well, making a positive contribution to local SME’s and Macao’s products, brands and services development. A Trading and Networking Platform for Young Entrepreneurs and PSCs Businesses In order to stimulate the development of the cultural and creative industries and, at the same time, create opportunities for young entrepreneurs to acquire experience in promotion and sales, the Fair has established the “Young Business Starters” and the “Cultural and Creative Industries for Young Entrepreneurs” exhibition areas. Given that a number of young entrepreneurs and cultural industries lack experience in business management, the Fair has become a good way for them to observe and learn from successful companies in Guangdong and Macao. This helps them to understand what the market expects from their products, by interacting with different types of customers. The Fair assists young entrepreneurs to find their own niche market and to set a direction for their product development. To be in line with the Macao SAR Government’s policies to promote the development of a trade and business co-operation service platform between China and PSCs, as well as the development of the “Three Centres”, the Portuguese Products Exhibition and Sales Area will be set up again this year to promote specialty products and food. The Seminar on the Three Centres for Trade and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will be held to provide a networking platform for local, China and PSC enterprises to promote mutual trade and economic development. The Shenzhen-Macao Economic & Trade Seminar 2015 will be organised to broaden networking and communications between enterprises and allow them to explore business opportunities. Use of "WeChat Shake" Electronic Platform to Promote Convention and Exhibition as well as Community Economic Development During the event every year, exhibitors display famous and good quality products from several regions; these products carry labels like “Top Brand”, “Best Buy”, “Creative Product”, “Limited Edition” which are well-received by the general public. This year, the Fair has also launched an electronic platform as part of its marketing strategy. It is called “WeChat Shake”. We want to provide exhibitors with another tool to promote and sell their products, before and during the event. Some exhibitors will continue to provide promotional discounts after the event which helps to promote community economic development. “WeChat Shake” can also be used on the shuttle buses. It is an invaluable tool to supplement the Fair’s promotion powers. Amazing Events for All Ages In addition to its business opportunities, the Fair is also a good place for the public to enjoy some leisure time and be entertained. Last year, the “Celebrity Kitchen” was well received by the visitors and it will be held again this year featuring the famous TV cooking show hostess Maria Cordero, as the star of the programme. She will display her talent, choosing among the excellent products exhibited to cook delicacies for the public. Visitors will also be able to participate in the “Maria Cordero’s Assistant Cook Contest”; participants will not only be able to show off their culinary skill, but the winners will also become Maria Cordero’s assistants, cooking with her in the “Celebrity Kitchen”. This year, the Fair has also prepared 3D images of Maria Cordero, with her kitchen stage as the background; hence, all those unable to interact with her on stage can visit the “3D Celebrity Cooking Pictures Studio”, and have their photograph taken with the TV idol and have the photograph printed for free. Visitors who enjoy challenges can take part in the on-site game which will put the participant’s endurance, memory, agility and luck to the test. It is an engaging game for all ages. Aside from these activities, lucky draw tickets, promotional and discount coupons will be distributed to the public.
