The “10th China (Henan) International Investment & Trade Fair” (“Henan Investment and Trade Fair”) was recently held in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province. Macao Trade and Investment Institute (IPIM) was invited to participate in the said event, where in the “Henan, Hong Kong and Macao Exchange and Co-operation Seminar 2016”, IPIM representatives promoted the unique advantages of Macao in the fields of trade and economy, with a view of developing its role as a service platform for exchange and co-operation between Henan and the Portuguese-speaking Countries. Furthermore, IPIM´s representatives also visited the Zhengzhou Comprehensive Experimental Zone for Air-based Economy, to learn about the development status of the local aviation industry and cross-border e-commerce, and also discussed about introducing food and beverage from Portuguese-speaking Countries to the Zhengzhou and Henan markets. IPIM representative promoted Macao’s advantages as a service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries to 200 guests At the “Henan, Hong Kong and Macao Exchange and Co-operation Seminar 2016”, the Chief Representative of IPIM’s Liaison Offices in Mainland China, Mr. Leung Wa Fong, made a presentation to the leaders of Henan Province, including the Vice Chairman of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Shi Jichun, and over 200 guests, including those from Hong Kong and Macao, on the historical origins and the specific elements and advantages derived from the development of the “Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”. Mr. Leung also stressed that the Macao SAR Government attaches great importance to the development of the said platform, and said that, before the “Two Meetings” (Plenary Session of the National People’s Congress of China and Chinese People´s Political Consultative Conference), a “Commission for the Development of the Service Platform for Trade and Economic Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” was specifically created and is presently chaired by the Chief Executive himself. Furthermore, the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Food Products Exhibition Centre” was officially opened in late March this year. In addition, IPIM will create a new department, to be named “Lusophone Markets Trade and Economic Promotion Department”, to follow-up on economic, trade and business cooperation generated by the above-mentioned service platform. In the meantime, IPIM´s representative offices in Fuzhou took the initiative to set-up a Portuguese-speaking Food Products Exhibition Zone. Other IPIM´s Liaison Offices in Mainland China, namely in Shenyang, Hangzhou and Chengdu, as well the soon-to-open Liaison Offices in Wuhan and Guangzhou, will successively install similar exhibition zones, so as to provide physical platforms for exhibition of food products from the Portuguese-speaking Countries. Mr. Liang said that IPIM will continue to strengthen interaction with the relevant government agencies of Henan Province, to assist these agencies to strengthen their friendly trade and economic cooperation with their counterparts in the Portuguese-speaking Countries, in a bid to effectively make use of Macao’s excellent business environment, high-quality financial services and convention and exhibition industry, under the framework of the above-mentioned platform, to further boost trade and economic co-operation between Macao, Henan and the Portuguese-speaking Countries. IPIM’s Representatives Visited the Zhengzhou Comprehensive Experimental Zone for Air-based Economy On the other hand, IPIM´s representatives visited the “Retrospective Exhibition of Achievements of the 12th 5-year Plan” at the Zhengzhou Comprehensive Experimental Zone for Air-based Economy, and also visited the “Zhengzhou World Wine International Trade Centre”, and “Zhengzhou Xinzheng Comprehensive Cross-Border Commodity Exhibition and Trade Centre”, to learn about the history of rapid development of the experimental zones and the advantages of using the local aviation logistics to cultivate and develop the strategic industries, namely, cross-border e-commerce, biomedical industry and other emerging industries. IPIM´s representatives also conducted discussions with local government officials and enterprises on how to combine the respective advantages of Macao and Henan, for “co-ordinated development” of logistics and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and discussed about the introduction of food and beverage products from Portuguese-speaking Countries into the Zhengzhou and Henan markets.
