Philip Chen, dean and chair professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), has been elected as an academician of the International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences (IASCYS), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of systems and cybernetics. Prof Chen is the first scholar from Macao to be elected academician of the IASCYS. Founded by the International Federation for Systems Research in 2010, the IASCYS has 37 academicians worldwide, 7 of whom are from China. Its main missions include carrying out academic research, promoting education in systems science and cybernetics, and creating an audit process through coordination of the actions of IFSR member associations for a globally accepted framework curriculum. Prof Chen was the president of the Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics (IEEE). He is currently the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems; a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society; and a fellow of the IEEE, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA), and the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE).
