GMBPF 2017 kicks off today Guangdong, Macao, Myanmar and Indonesian booths attract large number of visitors

Both residents and visitors enjoy a shopping spree.

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, the “Guangdong and Macao Branded Product Fair 2017” (GMBPF 2017) opened today at the Convention and Exhibition Centre Hall B, The Venetian Macao and will last for three consecutive days. With a total area of 9,000 square metres and 345 booths, GMBPF 2017 is being held concurrently with Macao Franchise Expo 2017 to maximise the cumulative effects, creating a new opportunity for co-operation between merchants from home and abroad.

Guangdong and Macao join hands to complement each other and participate in “Belt and Road” construction

Deputy Secretary General Li Yiwei noted in his opening speech that the value of imports and exports between Guangdong and Macao reached US$2.06 billion last year, the number of Macao direct investment projects in Guangdong were 589, contract value of foreign investments was US$3.21 billion, actual value of foreign investments was US$640 million, 12 enterprises were approved to expand their business in Macao. All these figures indicate the fruitful results of co-operation between Guangdong and Macao. This year marks the 9th GMBPF and many Guangdong enterprises have been participating in this event since the first year and have registered significant results.

President Jackson Chang said that in the past eight years GMBPF has attracted over 950 thousand participants and visitors, and has already become an important event to highlight the co-operation between Guangdong and Macao, covering trade, cultural exchanges, shopping and leisure all under one roof. He further noted that this year, in order to keep up with the market development trends, the Organiser has adopted innovative themes and introduced a more diverse content, so as to reflect the complementary advantages and business opportunities flowing between the two places. During GMBPF, a “Forum on Economic Co-operation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area” has been scheduled to promote the dynamic integration of the construction of “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area” and “Belt and Road” initiative and as in previous years, GMBPF is being held concurrently with the Macao Franchise Expo and has invited two countries along the “Belt and Road” – Myanmar and Indonesia – to participate in the event, President Chang continued. He also believed that this would be beneficial to further promote trade and co-operation exchanges between Guangdong, Macao and the countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”.

Organising forum to support construction of “Bay Area

Organised by the Guangdong and Macao Federation of Industry and Commerce, the “Forum on Economic Co-operation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area” was scheduled to take place concurrently. As noted by President Chang, by participating in the construction of the “Greater Bay Area”, Macao can fully utilise its role as a bridge in the “Service Platform for Trade and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” promote connections between competitive industries along the “Greater Bay Area” and markets of Portuguese-speaking Countries, unite Macao enterprises to expand global business, and further develop the function of “Greater Bay Area” as an open platform. Mr. Si Ka Lon, President of the Guangdong and Macao Federation of Industry and Commerce said that GMBPF is a significant event for promoting Guangdong and Macao products and the holding of the “Forum on Economic Co-operation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” at the event for the first time aimed to enable different sectors to catch up with the national strategic arrangements, in particular the opportunities of Macao as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in the “Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area”.

A highly anticipated event with a variety of products and fascinating programmes

Assembling a number of famous and characteristic products from Guangdong, Macao, Myanmar and Indonesia for the first time, GMBPF this year has provided numerous offers to visitors and organised a series of programmes in Station Avenue, including the 3D Printed Food, Custom-made Creative Gifts, Station Maze, VR Coaster Adventure, singing and magic shows and several featured products presentation activities. On the second day of the event (29th July), Hong Kong actors Steve Lee and Derek Wong will demonstrate their Cantonese culinary art in a live show.

More highly-anticipated singing and dance performances, and lucky draws are to be scheduled in the next two days. GMBPF 2017 is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on 29th and 30th July (Saturday and Sunday). Admission is free. To encourage the use of public transportation and ‘green commuting’, the organisers have provided free shuttle bus services to and from the venue. Public parking is available, although space – at Exhibition Hall D and E – is limited and on a first come, first served basis. The free shuttle bus service will run between the exhibition venue and designated locations: Macau Square, Avenida Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon, Taipa Central Park, Taipa Square Hotel, Grandview Hotel, Regency Art Hotel and Pousada Marina Infante Hotel.
