Press Release – IFT holds the opening ceremony of “The Recultivation of Culture:An Exhibition of Creative Script Hand Lettering”

Mr. Henry Kwok elaborating his work for guests

To promote the development of local cultural and creative industries and to enrich citizens’ cultural life, the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) hosts “The Recultivation of Culture:An Exhibition of Creative Script Hand Lettering” by Henry Kwok and his students at the Team Building of IFT from 28 July to 31 October 2017. The general public are invited to appreciate the charm of script calligraphy and creative ways of using script hand lettering.

IFT has devoted a lot of effort to promote and develop cultural and creative industries. In addition to providing diversified courses, in 2016, the Institute launched the “Old English Calligraphy” course, inviting well-known Macao calligrapher and lettering artist Henry Kwok to be the instructor.

Through organising this exhibition, 65 works by instructor Henry Kwok and his students will be displayed. The displayed works celebrated one of the most original forms of communication for highlighting the brilliance of the written word. It also reminded the audiences of the traditional form of communication by simply writing on a paper with a pen instead of texting on a keyboard or touchscreen.

IFT has always been committed to promoting the cultural industry in Macao. Apart from constantly providing a variety of cultural and creative courses, IFT has also pursued active cooperation with artists and designers in recent years, organising various types of exhibitions, in an effort to promote local creation and to provide a platform for local artists and designers to demonstrate their achievements of arts, and to integrate arts into the daily life of residents.

IFT has continuously explored courses which are up-to-date, interesting and practical for the community. Currently, IFT’s Tourism and Hotel School is working with 20 international organisations, providing over 80 professional and certified courses and assessments to the public and industry professionals. Every year, the School provides hundreds of vocational and professional courses to a total of around 20,000 participants.
