CE expresses condolences regarding Portugal wildfire victims


The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, issued a letter of condolence to the President of the Portuguese Republic, Mr Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to express profound sympathy for those people affected by a wildfire in Portugal.

In a letter sent on Monday (19 June), Mr Chui said he was deeply shocked to learn of the wildfire spreading across the Pedrógão Grande area, which had resulted in deaths and severe injuries.

In this time of sorrow, Mr Chui expressed his utmost condolences, on behalf of the Government and in his personal capacity, to the families of the victims and other people affected by the blaze. He also expressed his sincere respect for those working to tackle the disaster.

Mr Chui said in his letter he believed that under the leadership of President Rebelo de Sousa, the Portuguese people would be able to overcome these difficulties and challenges.
