The Consumer Council and Food Safety Centre worked together for the testing of pre-packed tea leaves on the market for their pesticides residues and amount of lead contained. All 30 samples tested showed satisfactory results, and details of the test report is now available in the latest issue no. 285 Consumer Report.
The 30 samples tested included pre-packed red and green tea from China, Taiwan, India, and United Kingdom, etc.. The test quoted two testing standards used in mainland China, and examined the amount of substances contained, substances including pesticide, fungicide, acaricide, and herbicide, etc. as well as the levels of lead were examined. The testing result showed that all samples did not contain over-limit pesticide residues and lead, pesticide residues were nowhere to be found in even some of the samples.
Although no abnormalities were found in the test result, consumers are still suggested to rinse the tea leaves using hot water before consumption, and the steeping time should not be too long.
Result of the mentioned test is now available in issue no. 285 Consumer Report.
