The 8th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) will be held on 1 June in Macao

“The 7th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum” was successfully held in Macao in 2016

The 8th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (hereinafter “The 8th IIICF”) will be held on 1-2 June at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Government of the Macao SAR, and the Central People's Government Liaison Office of the Macao SAR are the advising units of this event, which is organised jointly by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. The theme of the event is “Collaboratively Build a Diversified, Innovative, and Sustainable Infrastructure with Industry Connectivity”. Political, business and academia leaders from China and overseas have been invited to the event, which will provide an exchange platform for diversified and innovative collaboration, and as such the combined development of infrastructure building and other related industries will be discussed.

During the 8th IIICF, thematic and concurrent forums will be hosted in a number of sessions. The focus of the content is the in-depth discussion and exchanges about hot topics including the establishment of “The Belt and Road” & international industrial capacity co-operation, infrastructure construction & development of industrialisation, financial innovation & industrial investment and co-operation, and Smart City & sustainable infrastructure development, so participants can explore the possibilities of future collaboration and development of international infrastructure facilities. Meanwhile, activities including the 3rd China - Latin America Infrastructure Co-operation Forum, which is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, the Launching Ceremony of The Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2017) & The Report on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2017), the first International Contractors Leaders Forum, as well as many sessions of project promotion matchmaking, round-tables, and business negotiations, will also be held.

Launching Ceremony of IIICF will take place together with the Unveiling Ceremony of “China-Portugal Co-operation and Development Fund Headquarters"

The Unveiling Ceremony of the “China-Portugal Co-operation and Development Fund Headquarters" will be held along with the Launching Ceremony of the forum. As such the mission of changing the location of the China-Portugal Co-operation and Development Fund Headquarters from Beijing to Macao, which is among the series of actions taken by the Central Government in support to Macao, will progress further. The China-Portugal Co-operation and Development Fund is one of the six co-operative initiatives announced by the Chinese government in 2010 in the “3rd Ministerial Conference of China - Portuguese Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Co-operation Forum”. This initiative aims to facilitate the financial, investment, and trade collaboration between enterprises from China (including Macao SAR) and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The “Seminar on Industrial Capacity and Financial Co-operation between China and Portuguese - speaking Countries” will also be held during the forum. A number of high-ranking officials, leaders of financial institutions and entrepreneurs from China, Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao have been invited to participate in the forum, focusing on the exchange and the deepening of the reciprocation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in the area of financial and infrastructure facilities.

Meanwhile, the forum will also fully embody elements related to Macao. The members of areas such as Chinese and Portuguese industrial and commercial sectors, financial services sector, construction sector, professional sector and overseas Chinese community in Macao actively support and will participate in the forum. Organisations such as the Macao Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, the Macau Association of Banks, and the Macao Construction Association will continue to be the Macao co-organisers of the 8th IIICF.

In addition, a large number of high-ranking government officials from Mainland China and overseas, leaders of a number of multilateral development agencies and international financial institutions such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, African Export-Import Bank, African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, National Development Bank, China Export-Import Bank, China Export Credit Insurance, China-Africa Development Fund, China-Latin America Co-operative Fund, and China-Africa Industrial Capacity Co-operative Fund, representatives of 20 of Mainland China’s top 500 companies, and representatives of many famous engineering contractors and engineering equipment & industrial chain enterprises have been invited to the forum.

Since the hosting place of the IIICF moved from Beijing to Macao in 2012, the event has been successfully held in Macao for five consecutive years. During the Central Government’s Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Macao in October last year, he pointed out that Macao had to use its role as the pivot of “The Belt and Road”. Meanwhile, the progress of turning Macao into a services platform for trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries has to be advanced. He supported the fact that the IIICF, which is to be held in Macao, is going to turn Macao into a strategically important platform for “The Belt and Road”. In “The Belt and Road International Co-operation Summit Roundtable Joint Communiqué”, it is restated that emphasis should be put on the promotion of policy co-ordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds. Under these circumstances, the 8th IIICF will have more important realistic significance. For further information about The 8th IIICF, please visit the official website: http://www.iiicf.org/
