The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election today issued a reminder that each voter is entitled to endorse the nomination committee of only one election team. Voters are advised to be prudent in submitting their respective nominations.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Tong Hio Fong, gave the reminder following the Commission receiving three applications for legal status by nomination committees, and having found two cases of individual signing the nomination papers of more than one nomination committee.
The duplicated nominations would be excluded from the nomination committees concerned, Mr Tong told reporters after this morning’s Commission meeting.
After preliminary study, the Commission believed the two individuals may have breached the law and the respective matters would be passed to the Public Security Police Force for further action, said Mr Tong.
During today’s meeting, the Commission made a final decision to operate polling stations at 35 venues, with one of the venues containing two polling stations, thus making available a total of 36 polling stations for 2017’s direct election process for the Legislative Assembly.
There would be five more stations for September’s election, compared to the number of polling stations in 2013. Following the increase in the number of polling stations, each station was expected to serve approximately 11,000 voters, compared to 14,000 voters per polling station at the previous election, said Mr Tong.
Members of the Commission also discussed locations of polling station and optimisation measures during voting processes.
Mr Tong also disclosed that the Commission planned to hold a meeting with representatives of local gaming concessionaires and sub-concessionaires, to explain the Legislative Assembly Election Law and electoral rules applied to gaming operators.
