The Central Government paid great attention to the development of Macao’s education sector and of the city’s young people, said the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), Mr Zhang Dejiang.
Mr Zhang made the remarks this morning at an exchange session held at the University of Macau, attended by representatives of the local education sector and students. Earlier in the morning, Mr Zhang – accompanied by the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On – toured the University Gallery at the University of Macau.
During the exchange session, Mr Zhang stated Macao would offer a greater number of education services, as the Government of the Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Macao’s educators continued to uphold appropriate thinking and continued to join hands with the community.
The nurturing of a greater number of talented people – that would display ability and integrity in serving the community – was an important task in the consolidation of Macao’s stable political environment and prosperity, added the NPC Chairman.
Teachers and students respectively bore important responsibilities and duties, said Mr Zhang. He shared with students attending the session three points of aspiration for their development.
First, they should link personal career to the development of the country and the SAR, serving the country and Macao in order to achieve greater prosperity for all. Second, they should have a better understanding of the country’s history, and act as advocates of China’s culture to the rest of the world. Third, they should be the inheritors of the “One country, two systems” principle and promote further that principle.
Speaking at the session, Mr Chui said the Government was working in a focused way on its vision of “letting Macao thrive through education” and “building Macao with talented individuals”, while allocating more resources to sustain the development of education and the cultivation of young people.
Preferential policies – launched recently to allow more Macao students to receive an education in reputable higher education institutions on the mainland – played an influential role in cultivating a greater number of talented Macao people, added the Chief Executive.
Following the exchange session, Mr Zhang travelled to the Macau International Airport at around 11am for his special flight out of the city.
Mr Zhang was seen off at the airport by Mr Chui, accompanied by the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr Ho Hau Wah; the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Mr Wang Zhimin, and principal officials of the Macao Government.
