The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China expresses strong opposition to the release of the 2016 Annual Report on the Macao SAR, issued by the European Commission.
The Macao SAR Government expresses strong opposition to the self-styled annual report, which has been issued yearly since Macao’s return to China. Foreign authorities and foreign countries have no right to interfere in China’s domestic affairs, and should not interfere in any form in the internal affairs of Macao.
Since its establishment, the Macao SAR has strictly adhered to the principles “One country, two systems”, “Macao people governing Macao”, and the exercise of a high degree of autonomy. The SAR has been developing effectively under the regulations of the Constitution of China and the Basic Law of Macao.
The successful implementation of the above principles had been effective in maintaining Macao’s stable political environment, economic development, and social harmony, ensuring that Macao residents enjoyed rights more extensive than at any previous period in the city’s history. These achievements have been widely recognised by the international community and international agencies.
