Macao and Gansu sign consumer protection protocol to encourage good consumption environment and economic development


Macao Consumer Council and Gansu Consumers Association sign a consumer protection protocol in Macao today (26thApril) to establish a mechanism for case transfer, information exchange, and other co-operation, etc.. The Council indicates that it has been trying to further its co-operation with provinces and cities included in the One Belt, One Road region, both the Council and Gansu Consumers Association agree that co-operation between the two parties will help establish a healthy consumption environment and thus encourage economic development.

Strengthened co-operation with consumers associations along the One Belt, One Road region

The Macao SAR Government participates in the One Belt, One Road construction to encourage its long-term development, the route offers opportunities to strengthen co-operation between counrties, regions, and mainland provinces and cities along the route to establish international tourist destionations or travel products embedded with characteristics of the Silk Road.

Protocol offers convenience to Macao and Gansu consumers

The protocol between the two consumer organizations provides consumers with a fast and convenient mechanism to solve their disputes and encourage consumers’ confidence. Meanwhile, due to the differences of shopping habits in the two regions, the Council and Gansu Consumers Association will exchange information on consumer protection periodically to encourage a harmonious consumption environment; this consumption incentives will benefit economic development in both places and contribute to the One Belt, One Road strategic economic co-operation.

Protocal signed in Macao

President of the Executive Committee of the Consumer Conucil, Wong Hong Neng, and President of Gansu Consumers Association, Chen Qi Shou, sign the protocal today (26thApril), both hope to elevate the standard of consumer protection work in the two places so that consumers are better secured.

Chen Qi Shou mentions in his speech that the ‘Certified Shop’ mechanism and Consumer Arbitration Centre of the Macao Consumer Council are effective and important tools of consumer protection, and he expects the two parties work together more often in the future.

Over 100 complaint cases transferred between mainland consumer orgazinations and Macao

Wong Hong Neng indicates that the protocol helps the Council to handle and safeguard consumers from the Mainland timely, it is also very important to the build-up of Macao as a world tourism and leisure centre. The Council will continue to co-operate with consumers associations and councils along the One Belt, One Road route in the future. The Council has signed protocols with 43 consumer associations/councils in the Mainland to safeguard the rights of consumers, and over 100 complaint cases were transferred between the Council and these provinces and cities in 2016.

President of the General Committee, Vong Kok Seng, and other members attend the signing ceremony today, representatives from Gansu Consumers Association include Vice-President and Secretary of Gansu Consuemrs Association, Luan Ming Jun, and Complaint Monitoring Supervisor, Jin Zhi; other participants include consultants of the Consumer Arbitration Centre.
