MGTO and industry delegates attend the presentation

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) unveils a mega tourism promotional event known as “Experience Macao – Malaysia” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this week. The promotion showcases Macao’s fascinating diversities in tourism, culture, sports and gastronomy by bringing together all these elements at the heart of the city for Malaysian citizens, travel trade and media to experience. MGTO also rides on the mission to organize a “multi-destination” tourism promotion in partnership with the tourism authorities of Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian. As part of MGTO’s endeavors to promote Macao’s unique offers as a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”, the mission aims to tap into a variety of visitor markets and attract high-value visitations from middle-haul markets to Macao or other destinations as well in one trip, by highlighting the destination’s strengths and geographic advantages in the region.

The mega tourism promotion “Experience Macao – Malaysia” kicked off with an opening ceremony in the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur located in Bukit Bintang, the central district of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this afternoon (12 April). The ceremony was officiated by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism) of Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, Nor Yahati Awang, President of Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents, Datuk Haji Hamzah Rahmat, National President of Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association, Dato Albert Tan, as well as MGTO’s Representative in Malaysia, Tunku Dato Seri Iskandar Tunku Abdullah.

As Director Senna Fernandes expressed, Malaysia has been one of Macao’s major middle-haul markets. Tailored for Malaysian citizens, this promotion has adopted different technologies to let visitors experience Macao in a variety of fun-filled ways and step into a splendid world of highlights Macao has to offer in tourism, culture, sports and gastronomy. Being a unique travel destination beaming with blended cultural gems from the East and West, Macao is also a stop along various itineraries which encompass other destinations on the map. MGTO is devoted to offer more creative styles for visitors to “Experience Macao”, and nurture business opportunities for industry partners to thrive together with concerted efforts to forge Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. Earlier this morning, MGTO just rolled out another “multi-destination” tourism promotion together with the tourism authorities of Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian, with the aim to strengthen cooperation and advance tourism development in Macao and the region at large.

The mega tourism promotional event “Experience Macao – Malaysia” is held in the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur located in Bukit Bintang, the central district of Kuala Lumpur from 12 to 16 April, mainly targeting middle-class and high-end customers. Fueled with technologies, the mega promotion is divided into different themed areas where visitors can virtually experience Macao’s events, prepare delicacies and enjoy a stroll in the Historic Centre of Macao.

A number of installations known as “Door to Macao” can be found in the promotion. By opening the doors, visitors can virtually walk into Macao and join a folk dancer in dancing at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, or create their own signature dishes or drinks from Macao in the Macanese Cuisines Game on a touch-screen device. More interactive games are available, inviting visitors to meander along the Anim'Arte Nam Van or gear up on the Guia Circuit. They can also be a part of other spectacular events such as the Macao International Marathon, Macao Light Festival and International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao. Visitors can choose or create their own styles to Experience Macao.

Furthermore, numerous travel agencies are stationed in the promotion to offer special travel packages to Macao as well as other multi-destination tourism products in different combinations such as Guangdong-Macao, Guangxi-Macao, Fujian-Macao, Hong Kong-Macao and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao, a special sale convenient for holidaymakers.

MGTO hosted an “Experience Macao” Welcome Dinner on 12 April and invited around 50 guests including Malaysian tourism officials, leaders of trade associations and key players in the industry. Tourism officials from Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian, as well as delegates of the Macao travel trade were also invited to the dinner. In her speech, Director Senna Fernandes expressed her appreciation to Malaysian tourism officials and industry partners for their genuine support to the event. She expressed that members of the Macao and Malaysian travel trade are familiar with the market trends while MGTO constantly maintains a friendly cooperative relationship with industry partners. She hopes that the event will create more partnership opportunities and draw both sides closer in tourism, and supports tourism operators to tailor brand-new tourism products for market demands.

In parallel with the mission in Malaysia, MGTO just held another “multi-destination” tourism promotion in Indonesia with the tourism departments of Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hong Kong. Following that, another round of promotional activities was organized by MGTO in partnership with its counterparts from Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian in Malaysia today, including Macao & Guangdong・Guangxi・Fujian Tourism Presentation, travel mart and Macao & Guangdong・Guangxi・Fujian Media Reception. MGTO Director Senna Fernandes; Deputy Director of Department of International Exchange and Cooperation of Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Zhang Ruiqing; Vice Division Chief of Legal Division of Guangxi Tourism Development Commission, Tang Xiaoning; Deputy Chief of Tourism Development Bureau of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian Province, Chen Meihai, as well as representatives of the tourism departments of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Qingyuan and Nansha attended the aforementioned activities, along with members of the trade representing travel agencies, passenger transport operators, hotels and theme parks from Macao and the Mainland. Over 150 members of the Malaysian travel trade and press participated in the activities. Industry delegates seized the opportunities to network with their counterparts from other destinations.

Through the promotions, MGTO seeks not only to showcase the unique offers of Macao as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure to the participants in Indonesia and Malaysia, but also to create a platform for partner tourism entities in the region to jointly promote multi-destination travel itineraries and products.

Dedicated to widening the diversity of visitor markets to Macao, MGTO once again adopted the theme of “Experience Macao Your Own Style” in its worldwide destination promotions this year. To go in parallel with the national “Belt and Road” Initiative, MGTO continues to develop a variety of travel itineraries and organize multi-destination promotions together with partner tourism entities in the region. Furthermore, MGTO will extend the geographic scope of partnerships for multi-destination travel and actively develop new tourism products together with members of the “China Maritime Silk Road Tourism Promotion Alliance”, while leveraging the Alliance as a platform to further promote multi-destination travel along the Maritime Silk Road.
