Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) joined hands with the tourism departments of Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hong Kong to roll out a “multi-destination” tourism promotional event in Indonesia today (10 April). MGTO strives to advance regional tourism cooperation in active support of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government’s endeavors in forging collaboration with countries and regions along the Belt and Road. The promotion also aims to tap further into the middle-haul markets, to attract a larger multitude of high-value visitors to Macao or other destinations as well in one trip.
The “multi-destination” tourism promotion first kicked off in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia with a series of highlights such as the Macao & Guangdong・Guangxi・Fujian・Hong Kong Tourism Presentation, travel mart, media interviews and dinner banquet. Through the promotional event, MGTO not only showcased the unique gems of Macao as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure to the participants, but also created a platform for partner tourism entities in the region to jointly promote multi-destination travel itineraries and products.
Personages participating in the mission include Head of Destination Marketing Department of MGTO, Betty Fok; Deputy Director of Department of International Exchange and Cooperation of Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Zhang Ruiqing; Vice Division Chief of Legal Division of Guangxi Tourism Development Commission, Tang Xiaoning; Deputy Chief of Tourism Development Bureau of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian Province, Chen Meihai, as well as Senior Manager of Trade Development – Southeast Asia of Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Raymond Chan. Comprising over 40 members, the delegation also include representatives of the tourism departments of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Qingyuan and Nansha, as well as members of the trade representing travel agencies, passenger transport operators, hotels and theme parks.
The Macao & Guangdong・Guangxi・Fujian・Hong Kong Tourism Presentation attracted around 80 Indonesian industry professionals. MGTO, Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Guangxi Tourism Development Commission, Tourism Development Bureau of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, HKTB as well as ten industry delegates from Macao gave their destination and product presentations in turn to familiarize the Indonesian trade with the tourism offers and latest prospect of their destinations. In particular, the presentations opened the eyes of the participants to the holistic experiences and market potential offered by the multi-destination travel itineraries.
Following that, a travel mart was held to let nearly 100 members of the trade from Macao, the Mainland and Indonesia extend their network and discuss business opportunities, facilitating industry players to develop new multi-destination itineraries and products. Participants actively connected with each other in the travel mart, with some of the Indonesian trade expressing their pleasure to connect with their counterparts from Macao and the Mainland in person. They also complimented on the diversity of multi-destination tourism offers and remarked that each destination has its own unique elements to offer and complement each other. They believe these products hold a great market potential to grow popular among Indonesian citizens.
In 2016, Macao welcomed over 180,000 Indonesian visitors, a year-on-year surge of 11.7%. Overnight-stay visitors from Indonesia stayed in Macao for an average of four days. In light of the trend, MGTO hopes to further enhance regional tourism cooperation through the promotional event so that different destinations can share their strengths and resources. By promoting multi-destination travel, MGTO seeks to attract high-value visitations to Macao or other destinations as well in one trip.
In addition, MGTO will partner with the tourism authorities and trade delegations of Guangdong Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Fujian Province to participate in another “multi-destination” tourism promotional event held in Malaysia on 12 April. A tourism promotion entitled “Experience Macao – Malaysia” will also be held on the same day and attended by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
