Working in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) hosts a four-day aviation security exercise workshop in Macao commencing today (28 March 2017) with the aim of educating participants with the knowledge of developing and planning an aviation security exercise and evaluating the effectiveness of the exercise, through theory courses and simulation. A total of 20 participants from 8 different countries and administrations in the Asia Pacific Region join the workshop.
Through the “Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia Pacific (CASP-AP)”, AACM works hand in hand with ICAO to organize aviation security training courses in Macao on a regular basis with the objective of enhancing the oversight and the implementation of aviation security-related tasks of the Macao personnel. The training course of this time is convened at AACM’s office from 28 to 31 March 2017 with the theme of knowing how to develop and plan an exercise. Conducted on a small scale, the workshop provides aviation security personnel who are responsible for coordinating an exercise to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills so that they can better design crisis management procedures and assess the effectiveness of those procedures.
To help the participants to put theories into practice, when the theory sessions are done, the participants will be required to split into small groups to work on a table-top exercise to simulate the planning of contingent actions to be taken in an emergency.
The course is taught by two instructors from CASP-AP, namely the Training and Capacity Building Officer, Mr. Pai Yapan and the Programme Consultant, Mr. John Gratton, both of whom have enriching experience in teaching aviation security courses in the Asia-Pacific Region, including Macao, and are familiar with the aviation security operations in the Region.
The course participants total 20 people who come from the aeronautical authorities and the industry operators in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Hong Kong China and Macao China. The participants will be awarded with a certificate after successful completion of the course.
