Following the organisation of a delegation of representatives from the convention, exhibition and tourism industries to participate in the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME 2017) in Melbourne, Australia in February, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised a delegation to participate in the Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings (IT&CM China 2017) in Shanghai from 21 to 23 March. Apart from participating in the event and related promotional activities, IPIM also set up a “Macao Pavilion” at the venue and arranged over 500 business-matching sessions. Participating enterprises said that they were able to get in touch with potential local and overseas customers from different sectors, which was beneficial to their business development.
IPIM joins hands with the MICE industry to promote the strengths of Macao´s convention and exhibition industry
A “Macao Pavilion”, covering an area of 204 square metres, was set up by IPIM under the theme “Macao – Your Business Events Destination” at the venue of IT&CM 2017. In addition to the setting up of a promotion counter, display platforms were also provided to 31 local enterprises, including hotels, travel agencies, professional event organisers, destination management companies and conference service providers. Over 500 business-matching sessions were arranged and received enthusiastic responses. IPIM´s representatives also participated in more than 20 business-matching sessions arranged by the IT&CM China 2017 Organiser, conducted business discussions with prospective buyers as well as promoting Macao as an ideal MICE destination.
IPIM also organised promotional activities during the event. Apart from the participation of Macao convention and exhibition enterprises, over 40 Mainland convention and exhibition service providers and company representatives were invited. IPIM´s Executive Director, Mrs Irene V.K. Lau, promoted the strengths of Macao´s MICE industry and the “One-stop Service” for MICE Bidding and Support in Macao, aiming to attract a larger number of conventions and exhibitions to be held in Macao.
Exhibitors agree that the activities will help them in business development
Various local enterprises were interviewed by IPIM on the expectation of their participation. According to Ms Lou, representative of a hotel in Macao, the participation in IT&CM China 2017 not only helped promote the company´s brand name and image, but also provided them the opportunity to contact different Mainland convention and exhibition trade visitors. On the other hand, Ms Ng, representative of a local travel agency, said that the large number of participants of the event enabled her to meet with professionals from different sectors of the convention and exhibition industry. Mr Kong, representative of a Macao destination management company, said that he was able to meet with many potential event organisers, and it would be helpful in their business expansion.
