Macao music fans respond enthusiastically to first encounter with pianist Alice Sara Ott

“Music Hour With Alice Sara Ott” activity

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym) under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented the concert “Piano Encounter – Meet Alice”, part of the Shining Virtuosos series, on 21 January, at the Macao Tower Auditorium. Under the baton of the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Orchestra, Lü Jia, OM joined hands with well-known young pianist Alice Sara Ott, who gave an exciting musical performance featuring Robert Schumann’s music from the Romantic Period.

In the concert “Piano Encounter – Meet Alice”, Alice Sara Ott, hailed as one of the most talented young pianists in recent years, was invited to present Schumann’s most important and famous work, the Piano Concerto in A minor, offering the audience a show of rebellious classical music. Alice Sara Ott, a Germanic-Japanese pianist, conveyed Schumann’s spirit of struggle for love through her performance of this Romantic piano concerto, closing each movement with dazzling piano melodies and reaching a triumphant climax with passion and confidence before ending with a beautiful finale that swept the audience off their feet. Under the baton of Lü Jia and with Alice’s exceptional skills, it had a profoundly moving effect on music fans, as they encountered Robert and Clara Schumann’s obstacle-ridden love story. On 20 January, the activity “Music Hour With Alice Sara Ott” was held at the Macao Cultural Centre Conference Room, attracting numerous of piano enthusiasts.

Before Valentine’s Day, the Macao Orchestra will also present the “Japanese Drama Classic – Nodame Cantabile Music Concert”, on 10 and 11 February, at 8pm, at the Macau Tower Auditorium. Under the baton of young conductor Yao-Yu Wu, in collaboration with Chinese-American pianist Claire Huangci, this concert presents the celebrated Japanese drama “Nodame Cantabile”, a story based on classical music, evoking the witty love story between Shinichi Chiaki and Megumi Noda or “Nodame”.
