Vernissage of the exhibition : Love of Macao – Photographs by Lee Kung Kim held at Macao Museum of Art

The Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Black-And-White Photographic Society of Macao co-organize the exhibition : Love of Macao– Photographs by Lee Kung Kim, featuring 150 excellent documental photography works under the theme of Macao. The donation ceremony and the vernissage was held on Wednesday, 11 January, at 6:30pm, at the auditorium on the 1st floor of the MAM. The President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Ung Vai Meng, presented the certification of appreciation to the family representative, the daughter of Lee Kung Kim, Lee Sio Kit. Other guests who attended in the ceremony included the experienced Macao photographers, Tam Kai Hon, Ou Ping, and Wong Tong Ming; the President of the General Assembly of the Photographic Society of Macao, Kuok Keng Man; the President of the General Assembly of the Photography Salon Society of Macao, Leong I Cheng; the Chairman of the Macao Digital Photography Association, Yen Kuac Fu; the Chairman of the Black-And-White Photographic Society of Macao, Lei Hou Lok; the friend of Lee Kung Kim, Chu Vai Kun; the Principal of Macao Lingnan Middle School, Ao Cam Iong, and among others.

Lee Kung Kim (1930-2015), an experienced Macao photographer, likes landscape photography. During his residence in Macao for 69 years, he has left Macao with precious visual memories through photography, including precious portraits of Macao’s society and the daily life of residents. Lee Kung Kim had said, “Photography has allowed me to meet numerous good mentors and friends. I have also built a strong body and accumulated experiences from success and lessons from failure. More importantly, I have accrued countless historical, documentary photos, which are the artistic fortune of my entire life. Photography is my second life, while cameras will always be my loyal partners.”

Respecting his wishes and in support of cultural activities, his family members unconditionally donated all of his works, including film rolls, to the Macao Museum of Art as permanent collection. In this exhibition, 150 excellent documental works under the theme of Macao were specially selected and divided into the series patriotism and local customs, conveying to the public his deep impressions of the city. Lee Kung Kim captured the life aspects in Macao in the 1960s and 1970s and a true piece of Macao’s history by using documental photography.

Lee Kung Kim was born in Meizhou, in Guangdong Province, and started taking photographs in the 1950s. He was the President and Chairman of the board of the Photographic Society of Macao – the largest and most important photography association in Macao, the consultant of the China Photographers Association as well as the Honorary President of a number of photographic associations. He was dedicated to photography for over half a century and won awards in many international photography competitions.

The exhibition Love of Macao– Photographs by Lee Kung Kim is held on the 1st floor of the MAM until 9 July 2017. The MAM, located at Avenida Xian Xing Hai, is open daily from 10am to 7pm (no admittance after 6:30pm, closed on Mondays). Admission is free.
