The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, issued a letter of condolence to express his profound condolences regarding the death of former president of the Portuguese Republic Mr Mário Soares.
In the letter issued on Sunday (8 January), Mr Chui expressed his deepest sorrow at the passing of Mr Soares, and extended his utmost condolences to Mr Soares’ family in their time of grief.
Mr Soares was an exceptional leader for the Portuguese Republic, and had developed close relations with Macao. Having visited Macao three times, Mr Soares had dedicated much effort to facilitating discussions between China and Portugal regarding the question of Macao.
It is a great sadness to lose Mr Soares. His name will be always remembered, noted the Chief Executive.
