The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, chats with an owner of a shop selling dried seafood near Rua Cinco de Outubro to gain a better understanding of trading conditions after the typhoon.

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, today pledged the Government’s full effort regarding the optimisation of the city’s flood-prevention work, in order to protect the health and safety of the public.

Mr Chui gave the assurance as he talked to members of the community during a visit to shops in Rua Cinco de Outubro near Inner Harbour – a place that was severely affected by Typhoon Hato – in order to gain a better understanding of the progress of the clean up and of the relief effort.

During this morning’s visit, Mr Chui talked to shopkeepers at dried seafood stores, tea sellers, record shops, shoe shops and purveyors of Chinese medicine, in order to gain an understanding of trading conditions in the aftermath of Typhoon Hato and to hear retailers’ suggestions for dealing with flooding issues at the Inner Harbour area.

Officials accompanying Mr Chui on today’s visit included: the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr Raimundo Arrais do Rosário; the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms O Lam; the Director of the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau, Mr Li Canfeng; and the Executive Council Spokesperson, Mr Leong Heng Teng.

The Chief Executive and his team pay great attention to community conditions and will, as always, conduct visits from time to time to check on the well-being of citizens.
