Three world-renowned oncology experts recently visited the University of Macau (UM) and were warmly received by Lam Kam Seng, chair of the UM University Council; and Patrick Huen Wing Ming, director of the Dr Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation and a member of the UM University Council. During the visit, both parties exchanged ideas on biomedical research achievements obtained in recent years and discussed opportunities for collaboration in the field of teaching and research.
The three experts were Prof Mitch Dowsett and Dr Maggie Cheang from the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in the United Kingdom, as well as Dr Janice Tsang from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Prof Dowsett and Dr Cheang are the leaders of the Endocrinology Team and the Genomic Analysis – Clinical Trials Team at the ICR, respectively. Dr Tsang is a doctor and a clinical assistant professor from Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, HKU. Chuxia Deng, dean of UM’s Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), told the guests about the faculty’s latest developments and achievements. Both parties had an in-depth discussion on potential collaboration in the future, and reached the decision to increase collaboration in teaching and research in breast cancer tumour markers, molecular typing, clinical experiments, and other areas of biomedical sciences.
The guests also visited the laboratories and Animal Facility of FSS in the Research Building (N22).
