After two years of preparation, the “2017 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) - 2017 PLPEX, hosted by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), for the first time in history, will be held as a standalone event this year from 19 to 21 October 2017 (Thursday to Saturday) at the Venetian Macao, concurrently with the “22nd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (MIF).
With more frequent trade between Mainland China and Portuguese Speaking Countries in the recent years, Macao has been maximising its advantage as a business co-operation services platform for Mainland China and Portuguese Speaking Countries, and has built professional convention and exhibition platform to showcase the products and services of Portuguese Speaking Countries to Mainland China and other regions, assisting enterprises from Mainland China and Portuguese Speaking Countries to explore business opportunities. Since the inception of MIF, IPIM has always been eager to invite Portuguese Speaking Countries to come to Macao for the exhibition, and this move had won tremendous support from the Portuguese Speaking Countries, as reflected by the yearly increase in the number of participating governmental institutions and representatives from enterprises from Portuguese Speaking Countries. In 2014, MIF set up the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Enterprises Exhibition Zone”, and the newly added Gourmet Pavilion for the Lusophone countries, to focus on promoting the products and related services of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Then in 2015 and the following two MIFs, the “Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition” were staged as an event within an event. Last year, the “Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition” attracted more than 140 enterprises/units to participate, and has provided enterprises with a platform for exhibition and business negotiation for economic and trade co-operation between Mainland China and Portuguese Speaking Countries.
With a two year time period for growth and the constant progression of this platform between Mainland China and the Portuguese Speaking Countries, PLPEX this year, will be staged as a standalone event, covering a total exhibition area of more than 3,000 square metres. It is hoped that more than 200 enterprises from countries, namely, Mainland China, Macao and eight Portuguese Speaking Countries - Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor will attend, and the Macao agents for Portuguese-Speaking Countries Products and professional service providers registered at the“Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” will be invited to take part in the exhibition. Sectors covered are mainly from the food and beverage, tourism, e-commerce, healthcare products, and investment. In addition, PLPLEX will have seminars and forums for special topics, a fashion show for Portuguese Speaking Countries, a gourmet experience of the food and beverages of Portuguese Speaking Countries, an exhibition of the unique cultures of the Portuguese Speaking Countries. Meanwhile, an “SME service zone between Mainland China and Portuguese Speaking Countries” will be in place to act as a platform for the exchange of ideas and for co-operation among Mainland China’s and Portuguese Speaking Countries’ SMEs , in order to assist SMEs to explore markets, and to create business opportunities. At the event, PLPEX and MIF will be co-hosting the session “China and Portuguese Speaking Countries SMES investment and trade matching session”, whereby all participants can use the “Online Business Matching Services Platform” to pre-match the intent of co-operation among enterprises, for ease of business matching and exchange of ideas.
That PLPEX could now be an event in its own right will further promote Macao’s formation of its “Three Centres” (Sino-Portuguese Speaking Countries SMEs business and trade services centre, Portuguese Speaking Countries food distribution centre and Sino-Portuguese Economic and Trade Co-operation Convention Centre). PLPEX can now be more focused on linking up the enterprises from Mainland China and those from the Portuguese Speaking Countries, assisting them to “Going Global” and “Bringing in Investment” in encouraging the moderate diversification of the city’s economy.
