31st Macao International Music Festival’s Concert The Erhu Family brings the charm of erhu music

The 31st Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the concert The Erhu Family on Sunday, 15 October, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium, offering the audience extraordinary erhu performances. Interested music aficionados are advised to purchase tickets as soon as possible.

The Erhu Family gathers three generations of erhu interpreters of the same family, namely Chen Yaoxing, Chen Jun and Chen Yimiao. The Chen family is renowned in China and abroad for its innovative erhu techniques and the incorporation of western musical elements and instruments, thereby bringing a new charm into traditional erhu music. The concert features mostly original works by the performers themselves, offering an interesting and diverse performance.

In addition, more concerts are held this week, namely, on 14 October, the local chamber opera A Fragrant Dream, which returns to the stage with an improved version and extraordinary production that gathers a more solid cast, a more refined script and excellent performances; on 13 October, the concert by Berlin-based Japanese composer and vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita, also known as el fog, explores the infinite possibilities of sound.

The 31st MIMF diverse programme continues in the following week with more concerts, including concert by The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen as well as the outdoor opera in three acts Orfeo ed Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck, among others. A number of tickets for the concert William So & The Macao Chinese Orchestra on 28 October are available for sale through Cotai Ticketing.
