Argentinian dance company at CCM Tango’s multiple shades

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents Desires, a grand celebration of Tango brought to the Grand Auditorium in two shows scheduled for December 26 and 27 (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Merging interactive projections with a pallet of tunes going as far back as the 1930’s, Argentinian troupe Estampas Porteñas comes directly from Buenos Aires with a solid cast of dancers, musicians and a singer to display an intense choreographic string of romantic, fatalist songs. Set between a rural village and the Argentinian capital, the dance-theatre’s storyline takes the audience on a time travel, from the folkloric Malambo and Gaucho traditions (South American cowboy), to the music of Astor Piazzolla. Action sparks after Margot, the female protagonist, decides moving to the big city leaving everything behind. Filled with passion, jealousy and ardent dance, Desires is a technical and emotive production taking us through the many forms of tango in a display of multiple steps and styles.

Estampas Porteñas was founded in 1997 by Carolina Soler, an award-winning choreographer and artistic director whose career began in classical ballet. Since then, the troupe has been performing around the world having hit the stages in more than 20 countries on the five continents.

Complementing the performance, CCM promotes various activities including a workshop hosted by Estampas Porteñas’ performers, designed to let dance enthusiasts absorb some of the company’s steps and techniques. On the second day, a pre-performance talk will be hosted, unveiling insights on the show.

Presented by CCM, Desires will take the audience to explore the soul of Argentinian traditions in two shows scheduled for December 26 and 27, 2017 (Tuesday and Wednesday) at the Grand Auditorium. Tickets will be available from October 29 at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets at various prices and discounts.
