Government launches public consultation on new municipal organisation

Press conference on the public consultation for the establishment of a municipal organisation that is not an organ of political power.

The Government launched a 30-day consultation –starting from today – on the establishment of a municipal organisation that is not an organ of political power.

The consultation, running until 23 November, aims to garner opinion on what should be the structure of such an organisation, its function, and its membership.

The Government plans to establish in early 2019 the municipal organisation, which is to provide services in fields such as culture, recreation and environmental hygiene, and advise the Government on such matters. Some members of the organisation would also sit on the Election Committee for the fifth-term Chief Executive Election.

The Government decided to set up the new municipal organisation after analysing various opinions from the community, receiving advice from the Central Government, and ensuring such a step would be in accordance with the Basic Law.

The first public session for the consultation is to be held on 1 November, from 8pm to 10pm. Those wishing to attend the session can apply to do so via a dedicated website (www.omspp.gov.mo).

Consultation documents can be found on the website and at the offices of several public departments. Members of the public are welcome to contribute their suggestions and opinions via: the dedicated website; by fax at 8987 0898 or 8987 0899; via an enquiry hotline at 8866 8866; and by mail to the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (address: Public Administration Building, No.162 Rua do Campo).
