The platform was built to share news in a brand new format
An online news database operated by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the “Macao Tourism News plus” now offers two new features – subscription and news collection for its media users. The Office is also planning to invite members of the local tourism industry to become new users of this platform next year, to readily enhance its efficiency and quality of tourism news dissemination.
The beta version of the “Macao Tourism News plus” http://newsplus.macaotourism.gov.mo was launched on 28 November, 2016 and opened to journalists and editors working for local media entities as well as overseas media recommended by MGTO representatives for user account registration. Since the launch, the database has been providing its first-stage service for nearly a year and has kept expanding in its range of data, which currently comprises more than 16,600 data records including over 1,500 press releases, over 7,300 event features and close to 8,000 photos.
One of the key functions of the platform is to compile local tourism news materials from different sources. At the first stage, the news providers include MGTO and its representatives in different parts of the world, who release news in their own language in accord with their market demand. This segment of news data covers over ten visitor source markets and more than ten different languages.
To enable users to obtain news materials even more handily, the “Macao Tourism News plus” is now equipped with two additional features, namely subscription and news collection. Users can subscribe for press releases of MGTO and its market representatives as well as various types of news materials about events for media coverage and attention, for prompt obtainment of local tourism news. In addition, users can collect various news articles, photos and attachments on the platform and download all in one click through the feature of news collection.
MGTO is currently in the second stage of system construction for the “Macao Tourism News plus”, while planning to invite members of the local tourism industry to access the platform next year. Tourism industry personnel in the field of media and communication can harness the news materials available on the platform and provide media with the related information.
Upholding the principles of information transparency and resource sharing, MGTO actively promotes computerization of public administration. Following its launch of the “Macao Tourism Data plus” – an online platform of tourism statistical data at the end of 2015, the Office presented the “Macao Tourism News plus” for media users at the end of 2016, introducing an innovative platform for news sharing in a brand new format. This online news database not only aims to enhance the efficiency and quality of dissemination of Macao tourism news, but also serves to provide reference materials and useful records that may facilitate Macao’s transformation into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
