Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that attributable to the National Day and Mid-AutumnFestival holidays, visitor arrivals increased by 16.2% month-to-month to 2,888,716 in October 2017, and rose by 7.9% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (1,471,036) and same-day visitors (1,417,680) went up by 7.3% and 8.4% respectively year-on year. The average length of stay of visitors (1.2 days) held steady year-on-year, with that of overnight visitors and same-day visitors remaining unchanged at 2.2 days and 0.2 day respectively.
Visitors from Mainland China grew by 12.8% year-on-year to 2,058,530 in October, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 11.1% to 959,648. Mainland visitors came mainly from Guangdong Province (835,841), Hunan Province (96,789) and Fujian Province (77,490). Visitors from the Republic of Korea (80,528) surged by 54.5%, while those from Hong Kong (465,912) and Taiwan (85,196) dropped by 9.4% and 2.1% respectively. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States (15,901), Australia (8,157), Canada (6,862) and the United Kingdom (5,399) registered decreases.
Analysed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land (1,698,511) rose by 8.7% year-on-year, with those arriving through the Border Gate (1,472,914) recording the same growth rate. Visitor arrivals by sea (940,759) went up by 2.8% year-on-year; those disembarking at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal (579,094) grew by 4.7%, and those arriving at the Taipa Ferry Terminal (361,665) remained similar to the same month of 2016. Visitor arrivals by air (249,446) increased by 24.0% year-on-year, of which 99.5% (248,133) arriving at the airport.
In the first ten months of 2017, visitor arrivals totalled 26,723,755, up by 4.6% year-on-year; overnight visitors (14,107,764) rose by 10.4% while same-day visitors (12,615,991) dropped by 1.2%. The average length of stay of visitors (1.2 days) held stable year-on-year, with that of overnight visitors (2.1 days) falling by 0.1 day and that of same-day visitors staying at 0.2 day. Visitors from Mainland China (18,146,396) and the Republic of Korea (724,637) increased by 7.0% and 36.8% respectively year-on-year, while those from Hong Kong (5,121,902) and Taiwan (887,434) decreased by 3.5% and 1.0% respectively. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States (148,824), Australia (71,317), Canada (59,320) and the United Kingdom (46,917) recorded decreases.
