About 1,000 “Adherents” pass this year’s assessment and are awarded the 2018 “Certified Shop” emblem, 750 shops are graded B or above, and 11 of them are graded “Class A Certified Shops”. The Consumer Council indicates that annual assessment will be carried out carefully to ensure the quality of “Certified Shops” and enhance the image of Macao.
“Certified Shops” asked to improve continuously
“Certified Shop” is a “shopping guarantee” recommended to citizens and tourists by the Consumer Council. In an effort to take part in positioning Macao as the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, the Council continues to revise its assessment criteria in recent years. A series of measures, such as organizing lectures on laws regarding consumer rights, protection of consumers’ privacy, and food safety, etc. as well as special guidance session have been carried out to help “Certified Shops” improve their services and operations.
Over 1,400 “Adherents” were assessed and evaluated in 2017, about 1,000 shops pass the annual assessment, including on-site evaluation, satisfactory complaint records, mystery shoppers, etc., and are awarded the “Certified Shop” emblem for the next year. Most of the “Certified Shops” are graded B or above. Representatives of consumer organizations from mainland China were invited to participate in the annual assessment, 200 shops were chosen randomly to be assessed and all of them score satisfactory results. The Council hopes to bring in professional training and careful evaluation to encourage shops to provide better services to consumers.
More industries and shops attracted to the campaign
To further enhance the protection of consumer rights, after launching its “Certified Shops” mechanism for 17 years, the Consumer Council announces its new “Online Certified Shops” mechanism that aims to target shops operating in the new shopping business; shops under the mechanism volunteer to be monitored and to offer better protection to local citizens and tourists.
The annual “Certified Shops” award ceremony was held by the Council on 1 December. 11 “Class A Certified Shops” were awarded, and the “Online Certified Shops” mechanism was launched.
Guests attending the annual ceremony include Judge of the Court of Second Instance, Dr. Tong Hio Fong, Arbitration Judge of Consumer Arbitration Centre, Dr. Chan Io Chao, representatives of consumer organizations from Hong Kong, Zhuhai, Zhuhai Hengqin New Area, Zhonshan, Jianhmen, and Shenzhen, as well as consultants of the Consumer Arbitration Centre and member of the Consumer Council General Committee.
