MGTO promotes Macao as travel destination at Guangdong’s signature tourism event – Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival 2017


Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, attended the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival 2017 and the establishment ceremony of the Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area (referred to as the “Federation”) during the opening ceremony in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province today (12 December). MGTO is running a Macao tourism booth to promote Macao’s events, festivals and tourism resources at this signature tourism event in Guangdong.

With the aim to foster the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, the Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival 2017 was unveiled at Zhuhai Grand Theatre tonight (12 December), presenting a series of fascinating activities under the theme of “Dynamic Guangdong‧Romantic Zhuhai”. Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), Du Jiang, Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province, Deng Haiguang, and Secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee, Guo Yuanqiang, delivered their remarks at the opening ceremony. Director General of Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Zeng Yingru, the Commissioner for Tourism of the Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Cathy Chu, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Anthony Lau, Head of Communication and External Relations Department of MGTO, Kathy Iong, and Head of Destination Marketing Department of MGTO, Betty Fok, were present at the opening ceremony together with other personages.

The Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival 2017 features a range of highlights such as a forum on urban tourism of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, fun carnival and outdoor light show. MGTO is running a Macao tourism booth to showcase Macao’s events, festivals and tourism resources at the cultural tourism bazaar in the fun carnival. The opening ceremony also encompasses an establishment ceremony of the Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area and performances for cultural exchange of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

First launched in 2005, the Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival has come to its tenth edition this year as Guangdong Province’s imposing signature event to promote its tourism and cultural industries and its major platform to build up its regional image and fame. This edition of the Festival is jointly organized by Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Department of Culture of Guangdong Province and Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government, while being coordinated by Zhuhai Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.

The newly-founded Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area consists of the tourism departments of the nine cities – Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing – as well as the Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Government Tourism Office in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. MGTO and other member entities of the Federation will strive to enhance communication and cooperation with each other to boost mutual visitations, tap into different source markets together and promote sharing of information, while actively participating in different major tourism events and festivities organized by various cities in the Bay Area to foster cooperation for concerted development and mutual success.
