The Committee for the Development of Conventions and Exhibitions (CDCE) held the second plenary ordinary meeting of 2017
The Committee for the Development of Conventions and Exhibitions (CDCE) held its second ordinary plenary session today (14th) in the Multi-function Conference Hall of the Macao Business Support Centre. A number of projects to support the methodical development of the MICE industry will be promoted in a systematic manner. At the same time, the Macao MICE Portal will be upgraded with the intent of adding new interactive exhibition venue maps and travel information to provide "one-stop" support services for participants, to get customers and merchants into the community and promote the development of the moderate economic diversification of Macao.
Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SARand Chairman of CDCE, Leong Vai Tac, chaired the meeting. The agenda included: briefing on the latest developments in the operation of the Macao MICE Portal, promoting community economic development through conventions and exhibitions, and "One-Stop Service" for MICE Bidding and Support.
At the meeting, Secretary Leong concluded that Macao MICE industry's development strategy of giving “priority to conventions” in 2017 has startedtoyield results. Going into 2018, the SAR Government will remain true to its original aspirations and continue to join hands with all sectors of society to promote the development of the convention and exhibition industry with the same strategy. It will further strive to increase the number of professional and international brand conferences and exhibitions held in Macao, and to further spread the benefits associated with the development of the MICE industry to surrounding industries and community businesses which will in turn bring a more direct and deeper “sense of gain” to Macao residents and enterprises and assist Macao to enhance the versatility and resilience of the city by promoting the moderate diversification of the economy.
President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Jackson Chang, indicated that, as in the past, IPIM will work with the convention and exhibition industry, government departments, academia, professional bodies and the general public to build the Macao MICE industry so that it continues to bring benefits to Macao's various industries and economic diversification. In order to further promote the MICE industry, consolidate current MICE information in Macao and promote contacts with MICE enterprises and clients both at home and abroad, the Macao MICE Portal managed and maintained by IPIM will be upgraded to integrate smart technology such as the addition of interactive exhibition venue maps and travel information to provide participants with "one-stop" support services and to get customers and merchants into the community. The upgraded service is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2018. In addition, next year, it is proposed to invite the CDCE to attend a number of local and overseas convention and exhibition events.
Executive Director of IPIM, Irene Va Kwan Lau, said the "One-Stop Service" for MICE Bidding and Support has supported 19 conferences with 1,000 or more people being held in Macao this year, with four of these events exceeding 10,000 participants. In addition, the abstract version of the “A Studyon the Development Blueprint of the MICE Industry” completed by the Macao Research Centre Co. Ltd. has been uploaded to the official website of IPIM and Macao MICE Portal. The study will provide Macao's convention and exhibition industry and society with reference and practical advice.
