Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for November 2017 amounted to MOP1.00 billion, up by 26.0% year-on-year; value of re-exports (MOP841 million) increased by 36.4%, with that of Articles for casino surging by 651.6%; meanwhile, value of domestic exports (MOP163 million) slid by 9.5%, with that of Tobacco falling by 40.3%. Total merchandise import rose by 11.3% year-on-year to MOP7.57 billion, of which imports of Construction materials and Handbags & wallets expanded by 44.7% and 35.9% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in November amounted to MOP6.57 billion.
From January to November 2017, total value of merchandise export increased by 11.7% year-on-year to MOP10.38 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP8.75 billion) grew by 16.9%, but that of domestic exports (MOP1.63 billion) declined by 10.0%. Total value of merchandise import went up by 5.3% year-on-year to MOP67.98 billion. Merchandise trade deficit widened to MOP57.60 billion for the first eleven months of 2017.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Mainland China increased by 21.5% year-on-year to MOP1.96 billion in the first eleven months of 2017, of which exports to the nine provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP1.75 billion) grew by 14.8%. Furthermore, exports to Hong Kong (MOP6.07 billion), the EU (MOP175 million) and the USA (MOP174 million) rose by 17.9%, 5.9% and 17.8% respectively. Meanwhile, exports to the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP0.7 million) dropped by 88.2% year-on-year. Exports of Non-textiles went up by 10.5% year-on-year to MOP9.54 billion, of which value of Machines, apparatus & parts (MOP1.23 billion) expanded by 60.3%, but that of Electronic components (MOP684 million) declined by 36.0%. Exports of Textiles & garments totalled MOP836 million, up by 26.7%.
By place of origin, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP22.74 billion) and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP589 million) decreased by 4.1% and 3.0% respectively year-on-year in the first eleven months of 2017, whereas imports from the EU (MOP17.27 billion) increased by 12.9%. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise import from Mainland China shrank by 1.3% to MOP10.91 billion, of which imports from the nine provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP10.39 billion) fell by 0.2%. Imports of Consumer goods went up by 11.3% to MOP44.70 billion, with imports of Handbags & wallets (MOP3.13 billion) and Motor cars & motorcycles (MOP1.51 billion) rising by 34.9% and 27.5% respectively. However, value of imports of Mobile phones (MOP3.89 billion) and Construction materials (MOP1.67 billion) declined by 11.8% and 8.4% respectively.
External merchandise trade totalled MOP78.36 billion in the first eleven months of 2017, up by 6.1% compared with MOP73.86 billion a year earlier.
