Government paying close attention to chip theft at casino

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau meets with representatives of the city’s six gaming concessionaires and sub-concessionaires.

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has ordered gaming operators to review their existing security measures, after a recent case of chip theft at a casino, that allegedly involved a casino employee.

The message was delivered during a meeting on Wednesday (17 January) with representatives of the city’s six gaming concessionaires and sub-concessionaires.

The theft took place on Tuesday (16 January) and is now under investigation by Macao’s Judiciary Police.

The Bureau also required the gaming operator concerned to submit an in-depth report explaining the background to the incident.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the Government issued advice to the gaming operators on several issues, with the aim of preventing similar incidents from occurring. The advice included the need to: strengthen supervising measures; fully cooperate with the city’s law enforcement agencies and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; review existing security measures; and optimise monitoring of its employees.

The Government has learnt that following the incident, the gaming operators have introduced fresh measures to prevent further irregularities.

The Government has always paid great attention to the maintenance of order and security in the operation of Macao’s casinos, and has worked closely with the Judiciary Police to prevent irregularities in gaming operations.
