Macao and Zhuhai Consumer Council conducted test on melamine-ware

Macao and Zhuhai Consumer Council conducted a test on 18 samples of melamine food ware, all samples tested are satisfactory. With the development of the Greater Bay Area, as well as frequent consumption between citizens of Macao and Zhuhai, testing work has become a periodic cooperative project of the two Consumer Councils.

All samples from both places pass the test

Tableware products made of melamine are generally described as melamine-ware, they are strongly durable and widely-used. In order to test the safety of this kind of food contact materials, the Macao Consumer Council and Zhuhai Consumer Council worked together according to their mutual agreement and tested 18 samples of melamine food wares from both cities. Testing criteria include contents of heavy metals and other impurities, as well as decolouration of the tableware products, all samples tested pass the safety standard.

Pay attention to use

The Macao and Zhuhai Consumer Councils announced the results of the test together on 6 February, and reminded consumers to check the product labels, including the trademark, details of manufacturers and safety seal, etc. when making purchase of these tablewares. Tableware products should be smooth and odourless, and it is best to choose those with plain colour and no pattern. Meanwhile, consumers should use the tableware products according to the label, see if they can be used in the microwave or conventional oven, and check the cleaning method. It is also suggested to stop using tableware products once decolouration or damages are found on the surface.

Details of the report is now available on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo).

Close collaboration now a main trend

The cross-border consumption between consumers in Macao and Zhuhai will become more frequent as the Greater Bay Area develops, the Macao and Zhuhai Consumer Council agree that through routine collaboration, consumer rights and safety in both places will be safeguarded, resources sharing and monitoring of product quality on the markets also helps to enhance consumers’ confidence, thus encouraging economic growth in both cities.
